Palaces in Istanbul

Istanbul, as a former imperial capital, houses magnificent palaces reflecting Ottoman splendor, primarily located along the Bosphorus. Key palaces include Topkapı Palace (administrative center for 400 years), Dolmabahçe Palace (European-style 19th-century residence), and Beylerbeyi Palace (summer palace on the Asian side), many of which now serve as museums. 

Topkapı Palace (Topkapı Sarayı)

Significance: The primary residence and administrative center of the Ottoman Sultans for nearly 400 years (1465–1856).
Highlights: Located in Sarayburnu, it features exquisite courtyards, the Harem, and displays sacred relics and imperial treasures.
Features: Known for its traditional Ottoman architecture, it was commissioned by Sultan Mehmed II. 

Dolmabahçe Palace (Dolmabahçe Sarayı)
Significance: Built in 1856 by Sultan Abdülmecid I, it represents the modernization efforts of the Ottoman Empire, serving as the new administrative center.
Architecture: It blends Ottoman, Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles.
Features: Located on the Bosphorus, it features 285 rooms and 44 halls, and was used by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. 

Beylerbeyi Palace (Beylerbeyi Sarayı)
Significance: A magnificent waterfront palace on the Asian side, built in 1865 by Sultan Abdülaziz.
Purpose: Served as a summer palace and a place to host foreign dignitaries, including French Empress Eugénie and German Emperor II. Wilhelm.
Architecture: It mixes Western and Eastern styles, featuring 24 rooms and 6 halls. 

Other Historical Palaces and Pavilions
Ihlamur Kasrı: Known for its beautiful architecture and gardens.
Küçüksu Kasrı: A small, elegant palace by the Bosphorus.
Aynalıkavak Kasrı: One of the oldest pleasure palaces, located in Hasköy.
Maslak Kasırları: A group of pavilions located in Maslak, used as a hunting lodge and resting place by the sultans.
